EHS Coordinator reporting directly to the Mare Island Site Manager.

Objective

Based in Mare Island, CA the person will be responsible for performing and initiating all activities in support of environmental health and safety initiatives, New Employee Orientation and Quality Management System implementation in EHS; ensuring effective and efficient compliance with local, state and federal regulations and agencies, managing facility safety processes to protect employees, company, the environment, and provide a safe and healthy work place.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

EHS Support:

  • Continually improve, evaluate, implement and maintain health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to protect employees and comply with company, state, federal and local regulations.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct safety, orientation and quality training. Identify, further develop and deliver training programs in a manner that raises employee’s awareness and enables employees and supervisors to work safely.
  • Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation.
  • Develop and administer plant safety and environmental initiatives and lead continuous improvement efforts in those areas, utilizing effective communication skills (verbal and written).Ensures daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections and audits are completed as necessary to comply with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (OSHA, CalOSHA, EPA, FTA, etc.) including company EHS policies and procedures (e.g. AZDP, TOPE).
  • Oversee hazardous waste storage area, waste reduction monitoring and ensure regulatory agency compliance, labelling, containments, proper disposal and documentation. • Require all new materials and supply orders to include Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to evaluate new raw materials for facility use considering safety and regulatory factors.
  • Conduct regular unannounced walk through of work areas and talk to the personnel to identify their concerns. Communicate safety and health issues to the workers in a manner to help them understand why they are important and addressing them is for their benefit.
  • Assist in emergency response and provide first aid guidance.
  • Manage facility workplace incident investigations to include responding to and reporting all incidents, incident investigations, determine root cause, establishing recurrence prevention plans, and follow through. Recognize and reward input from employees that improve safety and health in the work place. Develop Risk Hazard Analysis (RHA).
  • Perform technical writing, SOP creation and document control duties as required by Shop Leader, Project.
  • Coordinate and manage the successful execution of EHS data for Teranga reporting system each month.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant legal rules and regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to AZDP high risk activities mandates.
  • Educate and oversee employees on health and safety procedures and regulations.
  • Encourage and promote the use of safer work equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Enter data related to any EHS incident in the EHS Connect system and follow up with return on experiences as necessary.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct recurring site wide EHS trainings such as, but not limited to, 1st aid, AED, BBP, CPR, fire extinguisher, evacuation, ALICE, and severe weather.
  • Initiate and implement improvements to the AZDP structure and directives.
  • Attend and support AZDP audits throughout the NAM Services organization as needed.
  • Maintain the OSHA 300 and 300A logs
 

 

 

Educational Requirements

Minimum: BS Degree or equivalent

Desirable: Associates degree in EHS Administration.

Experience (Essential Functions)

4 + years in EHS field.

EHS related Certifications and trainings.

Proficient in MS Office applications.

Working Conditions (Industrial/Environmental)

Primary condition will be an office environment however, time will be spent in all aspects of the operation such as warehouse, work centers, off site locations (rail yards), and suppliers.

Travel will be required from time to time, less than 15% of the time.
