Health System in Geneva, NY is seeking a progressive, experienced, innovative and service oriented individual to lead its Surgical Services division. The successful candidate will provide leadership for all facets of the health system's surgical services division across multiple locations and facilities.  Responsibilities include organizing, directing, developing and implementing a strategic business plan, programs and services, service enhancements, quality initiatives, productivity and efficiency initiatives and productive relationships across the surgical services division. This Health System offers a full complement of outpatient and in-patient surgical services with a focus on general surgery and orthopedics.


The position encompasses the following scope:

  • A hospital based surgery department
  • A free-standing ambulatory surgery center
  • Endoscopic services
  • Twelve (12) operating rooms and endo suites
  • Approximately 75 FTEs


The Surgical Services Department offers state-of-the-art space conveniently located on the main floor of the hospital, which allows the hospital to offer an even higher level of surgical care and comfort to its patients.  The new department encompasses four leading-edge operating rooms, a post-anesthesia care unit, procedure rooms, preparation and second stage recovery rooms.  A new central processing area was also added.  The department addresses the need for larger operating rooms to accommodate the most advanced surgical equipment. 





  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare or business administration is strongly preferred.



  • Current license as a registered professional nurse in New York State.  If registered in another jurisdiction, candidate must apply for and obtain NYS licensure.



  • Candidate must have at least five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a perioperative environment.  This includes depth of experience in budgeting (capital/operating), financial management and clinical service line management.
  • Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex, multi-site surgical services environment. Ambulatory surgery center experience is strongly preferred.
  • Candidate must have a demonstrated track record of improving surgical services operations.  This includes quality, patient safety, cost, productivity, efficiency and customer satisfaction (employee and patient).  Candidate must have experience with operating room performance indicators and using data to support analysis and solutions.
  • Candidate must have experience applying best practices and innovative strategies to improve performance in areas like room turnaround time and scheduling.
  • Candidate must have experience establishing, building and developing positive relationships with staff and physicians.  Must be a highly visible, engaged, take charge leader who has a willingness to coach and mentor.
  • Candidate must have knowledge and understanding of State, Federal and Joint Commission requirements.
