Summary:  Designs, engineers, and provides technical support for the mechanical aspect of manufactured equipment, which includes vacuum chamber machines, rollstock packaging machines, package labelers, and smokehouses. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collects data & feedback, evaluates, and designs new products and enhancements to existing products. 
• Leads the efforts for product development, prototyping, testing, and product life cycle management (PLM).
• Develops drawings, solid models, and specifications for the parts, kits, subassemblies, and assembled equipment. 
• Work with planning, purchasing, and production to determine make/buy, research sourcing or manufacturing options, and estimate the production costs. 
• Processes Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO).  Releases and revises engineered products and bills of material in the engineering platforms and ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning).
• Creates design standards, specifications, engineering change notices, manuals, and work instructions to improve the assembly, operation, and maintenance of the products.  
• Works with production and quality to address defective products, determine the root cause, and take corrective action.
• Provides technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical, assembly, or performance issues.
• Collaborates with sales, planning, purchasing, production, quality, service, and customers to ensure products operate safely and meet the customer’s expectations. 

• Travels to vendors and customer sites to investigate and resolve complex technical issues (less than 10% of the time).
• Observe all safety and security procedures for our area.  Use equipment and materials properly and report potentially unsafe conditions to management.  Your personal safety actions will be accountable in your performance review.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years’ experience in industrial product design.  Experience designing machined, sheet metal, plastic, and 3D printed parts is a plus.

• Experience with CAD software (preferably Solidworks), and PDM software.
• Good understanding of Engineering Change Management within an ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning).  Microsoft Dynamics Supply Chain Management (SCM), Finance & Operations (F&O), or Microsoft AX experience is a plus.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)

• Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for working with sales, planning, purchasing, production floor, quality, service, and customers. 

• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This position requires somewhat frequent exposure to hot and cool ambient temperatures, moving mechanical parts, heavy machinery, and possibly floating particles.
