Systems and Design Process Engineer  

The Systems and Design Process Engineer reports directly to the System Design Manager and is a position focused on the integrated design of plant systems, structures, and integrated analysis of the facility. In this role, you will act as a Systems and Process Engineer for TerraPower’s advanced nuclear reactor projects or other highly technical projects. The successful candidate will integrate and coordinate with engineers working on systems, components, or engineering analysis areas such as safety analysis or heat transport. The Systems and Design Process Engineer will work as part of a high-performing team. 

 

Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for coordinating geographically diverse design team members to develop supporting design documentation.  The team members include TerraPower employees, subcontracted resources, partner employees, and customers. 
  • Develop, maintain, and refine plant level and system level requirement and specification documents, including digital design tools and configuration management processes. 
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles, methods, and tools to the design of nuclear and industrial facility and its systems. 
  • Lead efforts in the development, maintenance, and implementation of procedures, forms, tools, etc, related to design control, configuration management, systems engineering implementation of engineered products.  
  • Develop and control the integrated definition of facility functions, performance, and design compliance through development and implementation of processes and associated data infrastructures. 
  • Develop and implement processes and tools to support design work such as  management of the engineering databases and work management tools. 
  • Lead the definition of software tool requirements and down-selection 
  • Support and oversee external vendors in the development and implementation of software systems. 
  • Perform oversight and inspection of product quality, adherence to standards and practices, and correct individual and organizational behaviors where deviations are identified. 
  • Identify, advocate, and resolve deficiencies in process or tool implementation, including issues in base process as well as issues in user implementation. 
  • Effectively support design reviews and the resolution of cross functional technical issues. 
  • Comply with Quality Assurance program requirements.  
  • Interface with and support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports and Quality Assurance Program. 
  • Provide training to technical staff on implementation of processes, procedures, and tools  

 

Key Qualifications and Skills  
 

  • B.S. or higher in relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years direct experience with proven system design skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Systems Engineering design approach in industrial, high complexity and regulatory environment desired. 
  • Expert knowledge of nuclear (or equivalent) quality program design and configuration management principles, practices, and tools. 
  • 3+ years of experience and hands-on application in complex design control and configuration management systems/tools. 
  • Knowledge of digital equipment software V&V and configuration management desired. 
  • Experience in Systems Engineering discipline and processes desired. 
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence. 
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction. 
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001. 
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
