This Roadway Engineer will be a member of our roadway group and will lead and assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, MOT, specifications, cost estimates and other related tasks. Microstation, InRoads / Open Roads, MS Office and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors. This Engineer will also help mentor younger engineers and will be given the opportunity to develop into a project manager. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specification are preferred; and must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.  

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Prepare and/or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for roadway design projects.
• Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Be responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plan preparation, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
• Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
• Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.
• Maintains project database by writing computer programs; entering and backing up data.
• Keeps Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Perform as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
• At least 4 years of design experience
• Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer
• Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: AutoCAD; MicroStation/GeoPak; In Roads, Land Desktop, and Civil 3D.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Seeks opportunity to develop ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers or employees of organization concerning project aspects they were involved with.
• Familiarity with TxDOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects.  
• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Preferred experience:

• 5-8 years of design experience
• Experience with Houston Municipalities 
• Experience within the transportation industry
