  • Under the supervision of a Group Leader, Manager or Director, the incumbent develops and evaluates personal care products and investigates new raw materials and authorizes for immediate product application.
  • Outcomes which result from the Senior Research Chemist’s activities include: marketable product formula variants with all necessary supporting data; new or improved formula technologies embodied in working prototypes and invention disclosures; technical reports summarizing the results of experimental investigations;    resolution of technical and operational issues affecting marketed products.
  • Follows all SOPs established in the R&D Process
  • Review customer specifications and requirements to properly implement product profile
  • Develop formulations to customer and/or Internal Marketing specifications
  • Identify and interpret variations in product, equipment and procedures which may affect final results
  • Issue final approved formulas, technical information and fill weights
  • Verify formulas, procedures and specifications before initial pilot/production run
  • Work with processing engineers to set up procedures for scale-up.  Monitor all pilot and first production batches 
  • Maintain working knowledge of all stages of finished goods production and all pertinent documentation
  • Work with Production Personnel, when required, to determine adjustments or corrections to batches
  • Make decisions on material substitutions in the event of discontinuation by a supplier or non-compliancy through change control process
  • Maintain current knowledge of new raw materials and technology via meetings with suppliers and seminars
  • Train new laboratory personnel when required
  • Conduct and interpret stability studies on batches formulated
  • Maintain contact with customers to help facilitate development process
  • Carry out any additional assignments as directed by supervisor
  • BS/MS Chemistry Preferred
  • Approx. 3 years product formulation experience (personal care/cosmetics)
  • Knowledge of personal care/cosmetic raw materials
