System One is currently seeking a Substation Protection and Controls Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity in Pittsburgh, PA.


The nature of the position involves expertise in creating and modifying utility substation P&C schematics, as well as developing relay settings and associated program scripts for upload. The position requires excellent communication, leadership, and client-relations skills.


  • Attend pre-bid and project walkdowns with clients.
  • Perform technical analyses and prepare new documentation or modify existing documentation.
  • Develop relay settings and associated program scripts for upload by relay technicians.
  • Provide technical support to clients.
  • Support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of the Electrical Department Manager.
  • Work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management.
  • Manage workflow in projects of various size and duration.



  • Five (5) years of professional experience.
  • Experience with one-line & three-line diagrams, AD & DC schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layout & wiring drawings, and conduct & circuit lists.
  • Demonstrated capability to create and modify substation P&C schematics with Microprocessor-based and Electromechanical relays.
  • Thorough understanding of and aptitude for current computer software, including CAD systems, SKI, or ETAP, general Office products, and design & business enterprise software.
  • Track record of building and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Experience with SCADA preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SKM and/or ETAP analytical software or equivalent preferred.


  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.


  • FE Fundamentals (FE) certification, preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification and ability to obtain certification in other states preferred.
